MICHAEL BAUCUM was born in Charleston, Mississippi and grew up in San Antonio. He is married to Laura Bertetti Baucum. They have two daughters, one attending Keystone School and one attending Trinity University. After his graduation from Southwest Texas State University in 1968, Mike entered St. Mary's University School of Law. He was awarded a J.D. degree in 1971, and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas that same year. Mike began his legal career in a general practice with two older lawyers. He practiced with them until 1982, gaining valuable experiences from these seasoned veterans. In 1984 Mike entered into partnership with Jerry T. Steed, the world’s best partner. Among others, he has published articles and spoken on the following topics:

In addition to authoring the articles above, Mike was on the permanent faculty of the State Bar of Texas Practice Skills Seminar in real estate. He has been involved with the Texas Center for Legal Ethics and Professionalism, and is a frequent speaker at local and state bar legal seminars and other legal seminars. Mike is active in the Texas Land Title Association where he serves on the Special Claims Counsel Committee. He has served on the member of the Planning Committee for the Texas Land Title Institute, a seminar presented annually by the Texas Land Title Association and St. Mary's University School of Law. He spoke at that seminar in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 2000. He is on the planning committee for the State Bar of Texas Advanced Real Estate Drafting Course for 2000 and 2002. He spoke at the seminar in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. He will speak at the Advanced Real Estate Seminar in San Antonio on As Is Clauses in Real Estate Sales Contracts. He speaks on a wide variety of topics to the San Antonio Real Estate Discussion Group, real estate and title industry groups, and at Saint Mary's University School of Law. He was the founder and moderator of the Discussion Group's on-line discussion area.

Mike is certified as a specialist in Commercial and Residential Real Estate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas Real Estate, Probate, and Trust Section, and the Texas Land Title Association.

Jerry T. Steed

Jerry SteedJERRY T. STEED was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on July 20, 1946, and was reared in Wichita Falls, Texas. Jerry is married to Barbara Anne Bailey Steed, and they have two children, Carrie and Michael. Carrie attends Colorado State University, and Michael is a student at Alamo Heights High School. Jerry received his B.B.A. degree from Midwestern University in 1969, and his J.D. from St. Mary's University School of Law in 1972. Jerry began his legal career as a prosecutor and assistant city attorney for the City of Dallas. He later acted as a litigator for the City of Dallas, and was assistant legal counsel for the Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport Board (by assignment) in 1974 and 1975. In 1979 Jerry entered private practice in Dallas with The True Firm (later True & McLain). In 1984 Jerry left True & McLain to become a founding member of the San Antonio firm of Baucum Steed Barker. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court; U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth and Eleventh Circuits; and the United States District Court, Northern District of Texas. Jerry also is a member of the San Antonio Bar Association, State Bar of Texas (sections: litigation, real estate, probate and trust); Texas Academy of Real Estate Lawyers, and the Texas Land Title Association, where he serves on the Judiciary Committee. Jerry enjoys hunting, ranching, and tennis, as well as coaching little league baseball. He is certified as a specialist in Commercial Real Estate by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Among Jerry's reported cases that were orally argued successfully in the Texas Supreme Court is O'Dell v. First National Bank of Kerrville, 856 S.S.2d 410 (Tex. 1993).

Paul BarkerPAUL BARKER was born in Plainview, Texas on September 11, 1946, and was reared in Lockney, Texas. Paul is married to Judith Gallagher Barker and they have three sons, Paulo, Corbin and Adam. Paulo graduated from Baylor University, Corbin and Adam are students at Baylor University. Paul received his B.B.A. from Texas Tech University in 1969, and his J.D. from St. Mary's University School of Law in 1972. Paul has practiced exclusively in the area of oil and gas from 1974 to the present date. Paul is a member of the San Antonio Bar Association, State Bar of Texas (Section: Oil and Gas), and the Texas Land Title Association. He is certified as a specialist in Oil, Gas & Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

ROBERT E. WEHMEYER, JR. was born in Robstown, Texas and grew up in Mathis, Texas. Bob is married to Jeanie Hargis Wehmeyer, and they have two children, Bobby and Katherine. Bobby is a May 2000 graduate of Vanderbilt University, and Katherine also attends Vanderbilt University. Bob received a B.B.A. Degree in the Honor's Program of Study at the University of Texas at Austin School of Business in 1969, and his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1972. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas and joined the San Antonio firm of Groce, Locke & Hebdon in 1972. Bob practiced with that firm (and its successor firm, Jenkens & Gilchrist) until 1998 when he moved his practice to Baucum Steed Barker. Bob's practice is concentrated in the areas of real estate (residential, farm and ranch, and commercial), mortgage lending and banking. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, The San Antonio Bar Association and the Texas Association of Bank Council.

Kay A. ElasserKAY A. ELSASSER was born and reared in Russell, Kansas. She is married to Allen A Elasser and they are the parents of two married sons who are both engineers. Kay's legal career commenced in 1957 as a legal secretary and paralegal. When her older son started college, so did Kay, at the same time continuing full-time employment as a paralegal. After graduation from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1985, she entered St. Mary's University School of Law. Kay received a J.D. degree in 1988 and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas. Her career as a lawyer began in a general practice with Tom Joseph, P.C. and continued until she became associated with Baucum and Steed, P.C. in January 1995. Kay practices primarily in the areas of transactional real estate, low income housing, wills and probate, and contracts. She is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Western, Southern and Northern Districts of Texas. Her memberships include the State Bar of Texas, San Antonio Bar Association, American Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, Bexar County Women's Bar Association, Texas Land Title Association and San Antonio Bar Foundation.

Kay's reported cases include Billie A. Shaw v. USA, 20 F3rd 182 (1994) and De La Rosa v. Kaples, 812 S.W.2d 432 (Tex. App.--San Antonio 1991).

Duane L. Bunce

DUANE L. BUNCE was born in Anchorage, Alaska, while his father was serving in the U.S. Air Force. He lived in many different states and in Germany until his dad retired in Azle, Texas. Duane is married to Tracey Bunce, and they are the parents of two daughters, Marissa and Christa. In 1982 Duane received a B.B.A. in Finance from Texas Tech University. After his graduation he spent 10 years in Sales and Sales Management for various Fortune 500 companies. He then entered St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas. While at St. Mary's he was on the Dean's List and was a member of the Board of Advocates. After graduation in the top 25% of his class, he was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1995. Duane practices in the areas of Civil Litigation, Real Estate Law, Construction Law, and Commercial Law. The State Bar of Texas, the American Bar Association, College of the State Bar of Texas, and the Texas Land Title Association are organizations in which he holds membership.

PATRICK HAGLER was born in San Angelo, Texas and grew up in Breckenridge, Texas. He is married to Nicole Taylor Hagler. Pat received his undergraduate degree from Texas A & M University in 1993 and his J. D. degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1998. He was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1998. Pat began his legal career in the title industry handling claims, underwriting, and other legal issues for Ticor Title Agency of San Antonio. In 1999, he took a leave of absence to work for the Texas House of Representatives during the 76th Legislative Session. Hagler serves on the Board of Directors for the Guide Dogs of Texas - Southwest Guide Dog Foundation and is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the San Antonio Bar Association, the San Antonio Young Lawyers Association, the Texas Land Title Association, and the San Antonio A & M Club. Pat practices primarily in Real Estate, Title Insurance and Probate Law.
